Responsibilities for All Three Opportunities:
Working for Northwestern Medicine affiliate HealthLab, the professionals we select will perform highly complex laboratory testing and quality control. These individuals will determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting analyses of blood, urine, and spinal fluids; and analyze blood by counting and identifying cells using microscopic techniques and procedures. Additional responsibilities will include preparing blood, plasma and platelets for transfusions; ensuring proper operation of analyzers and other equipment; preparing reports of technological findings; and maintaining current professional and technical knowledge.
Qualifications for All Three Opportunities:
- One or more years of experience as a medical technologist or status as a new graduate from an accredited program.
- Medical technologist certification (ASCP) or equivalent with a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science.

Responsibilities for Both Opportunities:
The professionals we select for this vital role will perform test procedures in a clinical laboratory and convey the results to the physician or designee in an accurate and timely manner for the purpose of patient diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities include performing all aspects of pre-analytic workflow to ensure that all orders are entered correctly, specimens are collected are appropriate for the test ordered, and are correctly processed and transported. Additional duties include specimen preparation; maintaining test-system integrity; collecting, receiving, and processing of specimens; performing technical review and interpretation; troubleshooting; and post-test specimen storage.
Qualifications for Both Opportunities:
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemistry, biology, or allied health.
- Appropriate education credits as defined in CLIA 88 regulations to qualify as a medical technologist.
- MT, H, C, BB, MI, certified through the ASCP Board of Registry.
