Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures as outlined in policies and procedures of the Cardiovascular Laboratory, including but not limited to Duplex imaging and/or echocardiography. May be cross-trained into other areas in the department. Assumes responsibility and accountability for patients in the department and provides care to these patients through assessment, observation and documentation. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described within. Work is primarily independent.
Successful completion of a diagnostic ultrasound or cardiovascular technology program with a verified didactic and supervised clinical experience in vascular or echocardiography or both; or
Completion of 12 months full-time (35 hours/week)clinical echocardiography experience performing vascular ultrasound/echocardiograms plus one of the following:
Completion of a formal two-year program in another allied health profession;
Completion of a bachelor’s degree unrelated to a CAAHEP/CMA accredited program or a bachelor’s degree in sonography, vascular technology or a minor in some aspect of ultrasound which in not CAAHEP accredited to offer vascular technology/echocardiography.
Previous experience in cardiovascular diagnostic ultrasound testing preferred.
An appropriate credential in vascular ultrasound or echocardiography (ARDMS or CCI) or obtained within 6 months of employment. (January 2017, all echo/vascular technologists required to have appropriate credential)
