Pediatric Neuro-Onc/Survivorship NP
The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Penn State Children’s Hospital is recruiting a nurse practitioner for the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology (60%) and Survivorship (40%) Programs. We offer state-of-the art Phase I, II, and III trials, with membership in the Children’s Oncology Group, POETIC, and NMTRC, and coordinate care with other services including surgery and radiation therapy. This Pediatric Oncology Nurse Practitioner will care directly for these pediatric oncology patients, provide support and coordination of inpatient and outpatient care, and interact between physician and patient, and other members of the team.
NP responsibilities for the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program will include:
a) NP inpatient and outpatient coverage 5 days / week, including time to teach.
b) Review of chemotherapy orders for neuro-oncology patients.
c) Direct care of neuro-oncology patients receiving chemotherapy and documentation of visits.
d) Development of and participation in quality research projects to enhance the quality of care we provide.
e) Maintenance of inpatient safety manuals for pediatric neuro-oncology supportive care guidelines and chemotherapy administration, etc.
f) Education of new or less experienced nursing staff, residents, and fellows to enhance patient care.
g) Ensuring adequate patient teaching prior to discharge
NP responsibilities for the Pediatric Survivorship Program will include assisting in building our survivorship program and enhancing the care survivors receive to address side effects of treatment. The majority of our patients will continue to transition to this clinic 5 years from diagnosis and at least 2 years off therapy. The nurse practitioner will help us accommodate the increasing number of survivors that we see in our clinic and their transition from their primary oncologist to the survivorship clinic. The job responsibilities will include: identifying survivors that are eligible for the survivorship clinic, seeing patients, history taking, and physical examinations, reviewing the education material with the patients and caregivers, and collaborating with Dr. Dandekar on research study enrollment, intervention and data collection.
Master’s Degree in Nursing with clinical specialization required.
Two years of work experience as a RN required.
Currently licensed to practice as a CRNP by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required.
Must have demonstrated effective skills in consultation.
Certification as an NP in the area of practice specialization is preferred.
